Experiment 3: Olive Oil Pistachio Muffins

For me to bake, I have to be in the right mood. Late yesterday night, almost nearing midnight, I was in the mood.

I had bookmarked this recipe from SmittenKitchen a few days ago. The ingredients were very basic so I didn’t have to run to the Co-Op for anything special. You can click on the link to view the post and recipe. Continue reading

As many of you have requested, I will start posting dishes that can be made in 30 minutes or less, the express section.

Today’s post took less than 10 minutes from start to end: Rice noodles with vegetables.

a few of my favorite food blogs

I am bored at work and what do I do?

I salivate over delicious looking food blogs…

Cannelle et Vanille

This is one of my favorite food blogs. Delicious recipes and even more delicious food photography! Latest post on baking with persimmons, I think they are called kaka here? Makes me want to go to the co-op or Sultan after work and grab a few to try it!

*Update* Guess what I found in our fridge! Yup! kaka fruits! So I’ll be making this much sooner than I thought! Yay!

Excellent step-by-step recipes and cute animations! Her latest post is a recipe of a pumpkin pie. Now that autumn is here (well not really but let’s pretend) a pumpkin pie sounds mandatory!

I discovered this wonderful blog today. And I spent hours and hours on it ever since! She makes everything from salads to cakes to bread to roasts… This image of roasted tomatoes and onions reminds that I should definitely post simple recipes for pastas in the near future!

I will feature more food blogs as I discover them.

Berlin

Lovely readers. I am back from the loveliest and my new favorite city, Berlin!

I was there for a program related to my work and loved every second of it. My eyes teared a little when the plane landed in Kuwait. I was in denial. I did not want to leave!

The streets, the museums, the parks, the canals, the lakes, the shops, the bakeries and Oh My! Oh My! the best and most perfect bread I have ever had in my entire life! I overdosed on every kind of bread with every meal!

Treasures in the basement

My grandparent’s basement storage room was always an adventurous place when we were small (and still is). So when my cousin suggested we scavenge the storage room last Monday, I took my camera in one hand and a hand sanitizer in another and started snapping away!  And since I haven’t been inside for quite a while, it was so much fun looking at all the old furniture, chinaware, my mother’s closet, old books and some friendly creatures…

One upon a time, the storage was at least 3 times bigger than what it is now and had much more interesting items but most of it was either given away or sold.

Also, my apologies in advance for the misaligned images, I couldn’t fix them on wordpress!

burgers burgers burgers

flipping burgers 2

Everyone’s obsessed about burgers these days, including yours truly. The chalet’s weather last week was a perfect excuse to BBQ and burgers are the easiest to prepare for. We used to be quite content with Khazan or Americana frozen burgers but then once I discovered the flavor and juiciness of a good homemade burger, I never went back. Continue reading

Suggestions?

I started this blog thinking that it would force me to start baking and I did get excited. I had many, many ideas but now I feel like I’m back to my lazy self!

So please suggest ideas for me. Are there any recipes you would like me to try? A dish you tried somewhere and wish to recreate it?

Let me know! I’m open to anything!

In other news, I am excited about the long week off. I am looking forward to being a bum and making breakfast at the chalet….creamy scrambled eggs, pancakes, tea in the morning, Turkish coffee at noon and endless munching!

Kanafa bil smeed: v.2: with ricotta cheese

As a special request from my sister Besma, (who is yet to try it!) here below is kanafa bil smeed with ricotta cheese…

I quite liked the contrast between the creamy texture of the ricotta cheese and the grainy texture of the semolina crust. And was quite yummy.
