Video: Gecko Emmentaler

The geckos are placed on the cows and once they are there, they can eat all the annoying blowflies. This means that the cows are more stress-free and produce more relaxed milk, which goes to producing better cheese. (link)

Please watch this video produced by Emmentaler Switzerland. I first received a link of this  video on April 1st. After viewing the video, I was convinced it was a joke but then I went on their website and they seemed convincing. I was confused. Could this be real? But this is ridiculous and hilarious! Anyway, I’ve been meaning to post it on the blog then but never did. I finally came around to posting it and when I checked the website again to link it here, I found it was an April fool’s joke! Well now that makes a lot of sense!

They even created an event on April 1st for the unveiling. Check out the pictures here.

Kanafa with semolina and nabulsi cheese

My first kanafa of the season!

This time with nabulsi cheese. I used the same recipe as here but instead of the akawi cheese, I used nabulsi.

As with akawi cheese, you need to soak the cheese 3-4 hours, changing the water every 30 minutes.

I personally prefer it with akawi or even ricotta cheese but it wasn’t bad. Actually most people liked it.

Singapore: Episode 6

I went back to that street! I made a note of the street’s name but because I am me, I forgot the name!

We tried the Indian this time.

I placed my order…

White rice with Dhal, accompanied with a cabbage dry curry and eggplant pickle

It was a very good meal. I personally prefer black dhal over the yellow one but it was good nonetheless. Also, the eggplant pickle went perfectly with the the rest of the meal. I still think the Malay one was much, much better and the flavors were much more exciting. This was just average Indian food.

After finishing off from the museum today, I went back to the hotel, searched for a movie and took off! I was quite hungry by the time I arrived to the cinema, which is located at the Cathay Building. I had about an hour to kill so I went over to Caramel and ordered their tonight’s special, cheese soufflé with cream sauce.

Quite a satisfying meal.

I watched Everybody’s Fine. I thought it was going to be a silly, happy movie but I was wrong, VERY wrong. I left sobbing with a heavy weight on my chest. This is not what I wanted! But it is still a very good movie. So if you want to go cry, go see it!

Midnight feasting in Dubai

The Oven Experiments has been on a pause since I’m in Dubai and have been busy stuffing myself! Mostly forgetable kind of food but after a midnight “snack” at Carluccio’s at Dubai Mall, things are looking good, food-wise.

We had a cheese platter as dessert and since it was already past 12, we thought that should be sufficient, but it wasn’t. We also ordered an antipasti platter. You can see them below. And it was so good. So we bought two fresh mozeralla balls and some more bresaola and asked them to just serve it to us!

Tomorrow is limetree cafe! Can’t wait!
